Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS)

The GDS-short form is a validated screening tool for depression that can be taken by older adults including older adults with mild to moderate impairment in thinking skills. If the score on this scale suggests the presence of depression, the person should be promptly referred to his or her physician or a mental health professional for a more in depth assessment and intervention as indicated.
